Raffles Iskandia University

In a cross-border collaboration, world-class architecture and interior design firm dwp has been appointed to project-manage, masterplan and design the architecture and interiors of the first greenfields university campus of Raffles University Iskandar (RUI), for the Raffles Education Corporation. The chosen site is located on 64 acres at Iskandar, in southern Malaysia. Raffles Education is the largest private education group in Asia-Pacific and, since establishing its first college in Singapore in 1990, the group has grown to operate 38 colleges in 35 cities across 14 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. dwp won the tender in a competitive field of more than 14 local and international firms, and are now the 'preferred designers' for a range of university and school projects planned by Raffles Education. The RUI design will set design standards and identity for the Raffles Education brand for all future Raffles projects.

The already-approved concept masterplan for RUI features a two-stage development with Stage 1 built by 2013 for 1800 students and Stage 2 built in multiple stages over the following seven years by 2020 for 6500 students. Project Management will be handled by dwp in Malaysia, while all architectural, landscape and interior design and documentation services are undertaken by dwp in Australia. The university complex will include: administration, student facilities, sports centre, auditoria, student accommodation, library, teaching facilities, food and beverage services, all set in a contemporary, tropical 'resort' style campus, focused on a central plaza. Malaysian environmental sustainability consultants have been included in the team, to assist the architects in reaching the GBI standards in the brief.
