The Nepean Clinical School achieves a blended environment for learning, research and public consultation. Located near Nepean Hospital, the University of Sydney's new medical school supports health workforce development and training. The new building incorporates 1,400sqm of tutorial and lecture spaces, a 95-seat auditorium, 1,200sqm of clinical research spaces and 200sqm of specialist and GP consultancy rooms open to the public.

dwp|suters refined the design of the project, with particular focus on the conceptual development of the interior spaces in sympathy with the external form and materials. The interaction between students in a learning environment and the general public in a fully operational health facility required careful consideration. This dynamic tension was resolved by the development of a central spine, which functions as a main arterial space that delineates the program functions, as well as the pathway for engineering services. This 'in-between' space is bounded by a feature pre-cast concrete wall to the west which is also expressed externally.
