ibis Styles Ambassador Seoul Myeongdong
The ibis Styles Ambassador Seoul Myeongdong hotel in South Korea recently opened with a design that highlights its prime location near the Chungmuro road, famous for its cultural sites, specifically an important area in the history of the South Korean film industry. For the design, the hotel approached international architecture and interior design company dwp | design worldwide partnership. The hotel was looking for a personalised design that was simple, modern, trendy and reflected the unique character of the local area. dwp were tasked with designing the lobby, reception and bar areas on the ground floor; the breakfast room; and a rooftop bar and restaurant.

Entering the lobby area, guests are greeted by a modern, friendly and lively atmosphere. The bold colours of the modern furniture and wall of the lift lobby stand out against the subtle tones of grey in the floor and wall. The reception area strongly highlights the local cultural heritage of the Chungmuro area with a large, eye-catching feature wall graphic displaying classic images from the South Korean film industry. Above all of this hang lighting reminiscent of film-set spotlights: giving all new guests the star treatment.

The hotel's breakfast room provides guests with a stylish atmosphere in which to enjoy breakfast. Subtle whites and creams in the room are punctuated with spots of bold, bright and vibrant colours. Feature wall graphics inspired by local movie heritage provide another focal point for the room.

Head on up to the 21st floor and visitors get to enjoy the stunning views of the city and the Nam San Mountain from a stylish indoor restaurant and outdoor bar area. To extend the capacity to use the outdoor bar area even into South Korea's winter season, dwp integrated heated seating areas, firepits and cozy seating with blankets. The design of the outdoor bar area is inspired by the contours of the mountain. Geometrically shaped modern furniture reflects this. The rugged shape of the mountain is also repeated in the signature lighting feature that streaks across the ceiling of the restaurant area.

With the design of the ibis Styles Ambassador Seoul Myeongdong hotel, dwp have created a hotel design that truly presents a modern and trendy image while also integrating itself as part of the local area's cultural heritage.
